How the Design Team Solved a Family’s Front Entrance
Visitors to this Greenville, Delaware home were often confused by where to enter the property.
“They were always perplexed about where to pick up or drop off,” says Designer Adrienne Angelucci. “Packages were lost, no one went to the front door, and there was a lot of badly used space.”
Adrienne understood that in order to fix these issues, they’d need to address the function of the property and create a new design from there. They decided to reroute the driveway and design a front entrance and walkway that led visitors where they needed to go.
Modeling the project off a Charleston, South Carolina style, they built low brick walls with capstones along the front of the property. A circular stone fountain with a café seating area offers classic style and curb appeal.
The family’s four children needed somewhere to play, so the drive was expanded along the side of the garage. This allowed a safer place to bike and run around that was away from cars entering the property.
To complete the intelligent design, the drive was connected with a wet-laid stone walkway that gave guests a clear focal point when they approached the home. Classic southern landscaping that will thrive in a cooler climate was planted throughout the yard. Large trees flank the drive to offer shade for the larger area of pavement.
